$20 Grocery Stockpile List (6.29.11)

So I'm mixing it up a little this week and doing a grocery only list. I find that it's easy (well sort of) to find good deals week to week on personal care items, and condiments. Although that could be the time of year it is, since sales tend to follow cycles and trends, but I wanted to put together a list that was only food items. I chose Dillons for this purpose, and it did help that they are having a good sale this week!
  • Some items are under the buy 10 get $3 off sale, I will let you know which ones, and my price reflects that discount already
  • Remember that Dillons will double your coupons up to $1

Grand total for the entire trip is...... $18.20 before tax!!

That's a total of 20+ items for less than $20!! I didn't put a number on the FREE items because that depends on how many  coupons you have or can get for these items. That's why I say 20+ items, because I'm not counting them. Remember that the beginning items were all included in the Buy 10 Items Get $3 off deal so whether or not you buy exactly what I listed be sure to make sure you meet the 10 item goal!! P&G Everyday Solutions Membership

Since I was on the thread of Proctor and Gamble (P&G) anyways, I thought I would take a moment to remind everyone that they can sign up for their Everyday Solutions promotion. If you click here you can sign up, once that is done you will receive a coupon booklet about every month that contains a lot of different coupons. Some are higher value than the ones that come out in the paper inserts, and some are more lenient as far as sizes of products, etc. I actually signed up for this before I started couponing and I've always loved getting my little booklet in the mail!!

Best of Menards Rebates (6.26.11)

There are two current ads out for Menards: one for this week, and a special one for July 4th. I will split the two, I am picking out the free, or close to rebates, to what else they offer go their website.
Weekly ad for June 26 - July 10th
  • Interior flat paint - $11 - $11 mail in rebate = Free after rebate, limit 5 gallons per household
  • 100% Silicone Sealant - $3 each - $3 rebate = Free after rebates, limit 12 tubes per household (good for winterizing homes)
  • Large Bottle House Wash - $6 - $6 rebate = Free after rebates, limit 4 bottles per household
  • Auto/Home Spic n Span Wet Wipes (25ct) - $1.50 each - $1.50 rebate = Free after rebates, limit 10 bottles per household
  • Your choice 6" Diagonal Cutting Pliers OR 6" Long Nose Pliers - $3 - $3 rebate = Free after rebates, limit 2 per household
  • Topsy Turvey Upside Down Hummingbird Hangout Planter - $3 - $3 rebate = Free after rebate, limit 6 per household
  • Cutter Insect Repellent - $2.99 each - $2 rebate = .99 after rebate, limit 3 cans per household
  • Microfiber towels 12 pack - $6.99 - $5 rebate = $1.99 each, limit 12 packs per household.

My suggestion would be to make a list of what you want, understand that done right your first trip will be your most expensive. Know how much it will cost you out of pocket , but also know how much you will recieve in rebates. Hopefully you will receive your rebates before the next sale and can roll over your rebates sale to sale to potentially spend nothing or very little per shopping trip! I personally can't wait until I get to go there next week!!!!!

Thanks Maggie awesome FB fan :)

Overview of Menards policies/ products

Okay, so I know I don't do any real match-ups because, frankly, I don't have the time. BUT through a fan on facebook I have begun to start looking at the Menards ads that come in the paper. I have to say I am quite excited about this store now!

They are kind of like the Walgreens of Home Improvement stores, and what I mean by that is that they offer a lot of rebates for their products. Unlike Walgreens though, these rebates are done through the mail. Also you don't receive a check for your money back; you receive a customer credit to their store. If it's done right you could find yourself never having to pay a penny after your first visit. The downfall I can see is that I do not know how long it takes for your credit to arrive. I have not shopped there yet, although I plan to remedy that as soon as possible, and I'm working the next couple days. So when I get a chance I will look into this more!
They also takes coupons, and really they have a fairly lenient coupon policy I feel. Now before you wonder why in the hell I'm telling you about a home improvement store, I suggest you go to their website and look at their deals and stock. This looks like a great place to stock up on some items that you won't normally get from Target, or Dillons, but it is still useful and if you use those rebates right....... well the savings are there. My next post I will do a match-up for their ads this week. For now though here is their coupon policy:

Menards Coupon Policy:
Menards® will accept competitor and Manufacturer's coupons both mailed and internet under the following guidelines:
  • Coupons must be from a local competitor or state "Manufacturer's Coupon".
  • Manufacturer's Coupons must include a scanable barcode and remit to address.
  • All coupons must have an expiration date and be presented within the valid date. Menards® WILL NOT accept expired coupons.
  • Coupons must be for product sold at Menards® and must be presented at the time of purchase.
  • Manufacturer's coupons and competitor coupons will be enforced per the individual coupons rules and regulations.
  • Any coupons stating "Not valid with any other discount or offer" will not be valid with sale priced items.
  • Competitor coupons for discounts when using specific tenders will be honored when using the Menard® Big Card.
  • Due to Fraud, Menards® will not accept competitor's coupons for a % off a total transaction greater than 10%.
  • Due to Fraud, Menards® will not accept coupons that have been copied or altered. Menards® will also not accept coupons that have been purchased or sold on the internet.
  • Menards® reserves the right to accept or refuse coupons at its own discretion.
  • Coupons do not apply to Menards® 11% off low price guarantee.
They also hand out ‘sorry slips” if a sale item is out of stock.
They have 4 stores in Kansas: 2 in Wichita, 1 in Salina and 1 in Manhattan. Addresses can be found on their website.
UPDATE 2012: Since I wrote this post I found out through that same fan that their rebate checks take up 4-6 weeks to arrive in the mail. Remember, they are only good at Menards. I am currently doing a case study on shopping there, and when I know more personally about how their rebates work, you'll be the first to know!

Dollar General Updated Coupon Policy

Not a lot has changed from what I can see. Don't worry you can still stack Mfg. coupons and DG coupons. The only change I think I see is that they will NOT give cash back on a purchase if you use coupons. Honestly that does not bother me, I think that stores are supposed to not give cash back. If you read most coupons they say that you are not supposed to get cash for them, sell them, etc.

Here's the link if you want to check it out yourself: http://www.dollargeneral.com/OurStores/Pages/CouponPolicy.aspx

.50 Whitecloud Wipes @ Walmart

(I really need to pick up some copies of this magazine!)  If you have the June or July issue of All You Magazine (a special magazine for walmart apparently, which is where you get it) they have a coupon for $1/1 White Cloud Wipes.
Walmart's everyday price on these is $1.50 a package, which makes the final cost after coupon=  .50 package!!!

(Thank you Krazy Coupon Lady)

$15 Stockpile list for week 6-23

Okay so here is another example of what you could get with only $15 of your grocery budget dedicated to growing your stockpile. I know that last time I used $20 but if you consider that weekly that's still $80 extra a months, so I decided to trim it back a little. So here is my list:

$15 stockpile list

Dollar General:
Lysol No Touch Soap Dispenser - regular price: $10 (buy 2)
use (2) $5/1 Dollar General Coupon
AND use (2) $3/1 Mfg. Coupon
= $2 each
Total for DG trip= $4

Walmart:
O-Cell-O sponges - .94 for 2 pk (8 pkg.s)
$1/2 coupon (printable coupon)
= .54 each (8 pkg)   equals $4.48 for 8 double packs of sponges

Original Rotel - .98 can (4 cans)
use .30/1 coupon
= .68 can (4)  equals $2.72 for four cans

Cheese Nips - $1 box (6 boxes)
use $1/2 Nabisco Cookie or Crackers (6-19 SS insert)
= .50 box (6)    equals $3 for 6 boxes

Grand Total for Both Stores = $15
This is a pre-tax total so it will be a bit higher than $15. This list includes 20 items, and when you consider that the Dollar General trip along should have cost $20 that is huge savings!! Again you may not like some of the products I've listed, or need them. Not to mention you may have a better deal on something else in your area, so feel free to tweak this list to fit YOUR needs. I just wanted to do this to show what a little bit of money a week could REALLY do for a stock-pile.

Possible Betty Crocker Coupon

Found this coupon through an ad on my yahoo mail page. I don't know if this link will work to print the coupon because i've never done it this way before! That said it is a .50/? (it didn't say just that it was .50 off) i'm assuming two, boxes of Betty Crocker Patatoe au Gratin. Let me know if this one works guys, i'm not around a printer so i'm sorry I can't tell you more about the coupon. If it doesn't work keep trying your homepage for yahoo mail, maybe you'll get lucky!!

.30/1 can Rotel

If you go to this website you should be able to print off a coupon for .30/1 can of Rotel. They also have a .35/1 Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard, but personally I'm more interested in the Rotel coupon. Walmart sells their original rotel (which we use allll the time) for .98 can - the .30 coupon that's = .68 can!!
I know this isn't a high value coupon, but this is something my house always uses, and that it doesn't seem that I see a coupon for very often, so I was excited about this one!

Sponges @ WalMart for .56 each!!

Go here to print off a .75/2 O-Cel-O sponges. Walmart has these two packs for .94 each, so if you buy two of these packages you will only pay .56 each or .28 sponge. Not a bad price I think, and since it's a 3m coupon you can print to your hearts content.... within reason :)

Thanks: Krazy Coupon Lady

$4.02 Money Maker at CVS

Okay, you actually don't need any coupons for this one (again I wish I had a CVS). I actually read about this deal earlier, but it was on a site that I don't know and didn't really credit it. Since then another site that I do trust and use a lot, Thank you Extremely Normal Couponing, had someone go try it and it worked for them. This will take some out of pocket expense but the reward is good. Sooooo here's the deal:

Here’s the scenario:
Promotion: Buy 2 Hawaiian Tropic (excludes baby)  get $10 ECB.
Buy 2 Hawaiian Tropic Lip Balm – $2.99 each
Pay $5.98 out of pocket, get $10 ECB.
Final: $4.02 MONEYMAKER!
I found these on one of the end caps that had sunscreen, and they were along the edges of the end cap. Ask the associates there if you can’t find them.
Again thanks Extremely Normal Couponing

KMart Double Coupon Event ( up to .99)

Okay so there's a lot of buzz going around some of the coupon sites that from now until the 25th Kmart is having a double coupon event. I've checked a list that was out and most of the Kansas stores were on there from what I saw. HOWEVER.... just to be on the safe side I would call and check with your store ahead of time. There is also a little difference on how many coupons can be used. Some blogs say unlimited, one person commented that their store only allowed 5 like coupons, and another site said 4 like coupons. Again, I strongly suggest calling ahead of time to see how your store is working this deal. I have not seen their ad yet for the week, so I don't know what kind of deals we will really get out of this, especially since we are lucky enough that our Dillons still double up to a dollar coupons. I think this is REALLY a big deal for areas where few, if any, stores double their coupons anymore. You must also be a Shop Your Way Rewards member, which is super easy to sign up for, FREE, and a program that I would suggest you sign up for regardless if you do any shopping at all at Kmart and Sears.
I did find this little snippet of information and will share with your, but really there is no substitution for a phone call or even quick stop in the store (if you live close) and ask about it.

Double Manufacturer Coupons Up to .99¢! A valid Shop Your Way Rewards (SM) member number must be entered at time of purchase to participate in the double coupon event.
Participating stores only. Kmart will double manufacturer coupons with a face value of .99¢ or less. Amount of credit from doubling a coupon cannot exceed the current retail price of a single item.
You may only purchase 4 of the same item using double coupons. Excludes Buy One, Get One offers, Kmart Savings coupons and Kmart Store coupons.

$20 Stockpile List

Okay, if you read my earlier posts you will know that after doing this for awhile, and spending too much on it (weird I know, but it starts out that way) I have to decided to try something different. While reading one of the many blogs I follow, and I'm sorry I don't remember who it was for them to get the credit :(, I found the great advise to set aside X amount of dollars a week with the sole purpose of building my stockpile. Seeing as I get paid every 2 weeks, and that right now money is tight enough that I can't really do a weekly shopping trip, i'm going to start out small. My goal for the next 4 -6 weeks is $20 every two weeks.
Since I won't know the sales in advance, and (for now) I think it will be easier to stick to one store, I am making my list from walmart. I know some have had issues there, with rude checkers, managers, etc. but I have not had any problems there myself. Of course, if a free deal on something pops up in another store, or even just rock bottom price, I will allow myself enough flexibility to account for that. So, anyways, here is my list (it's actually for next week but shhhhhh :).
  • Franks Hot sauce (coupons.com under 98401) = cost .98 bottle - .50/1 q = .48 bottle (4) = 1.92 for four
  • Up2U gum - 1.07 each - $1/1q - .07 each (7) = .49 for seven packs
  • Combat Ant Traps - 2.47 each - $2/1q ( combat.com under special offers) = .47 (2) = .94 for two
  • 5 small bags cat litter - 1.77 each - $1/1q = .77 each (5) = 3.85 for five bags
  • Hormel kids completes - 1.78 each - $1/1q = .78 eacg (6) = 4.68 for six
  • Dial travel sized body wash - .97 each - $2/1q = -1.03 MM (9) = Make 9.27
  • OR if that is sold out
  • Dial Lotion - 1.97 each - $2/1q = FREE
  • Travel sized aquafresh extreme clean toothepaste- .97 - $1/1q (go to their website, look under special offers) FREE
  • Mom's Best Oatmeal - $1 - .75q (go to website sign up for email, receive in email)= .25 (2) =.50
  • Small size Tide Stain Release- $4 - 2/1q = $2
  • Kings Hawaiian Sweet Bread - 2.98 each - $2/1q (from website, then email) = .98 each (2) =1.96
  • Grand Total for entire trip= $16.34!!! that's alot of stuff for under twenty dollars, of course I figure the difference is the tax. So there you go, my $20 stockpile list, I think this will work really well. Especially when I can begin doing this weekly vs. bi-weekly. If anyone else tries this, let me know how you like it.

My Truths to Starting Couponing

Well has I've said before I've been doing this for a little over a month now and it's becoming more obvious by day just how far off the show is from reality.
I knew that it couldn't be like the show all the time, and that t.v. often twists and edits show for the ratings, but I didn't realize how HARD it was going to be to do this! All those people on the show make it appear effortless. Yes they all talk about how much time they spend and yadda, yadda, yadda, but what they don't talk about is the starting point. So here are a few of the truths that I have found so far myself.

  1.   It Takes More Money To Start: Luckily I was somewhat prepared for this, having read in a book that it sometimes takes more money to start than you originally spend. Well, I have to say this is completely true! I know it sounds nuts at first, I mean the whole point of couponing is saving money off your groceries, and you are right. Here's the catch, until you're stockpile is complete, you will be buying the "sale items" AND the regular weekly groceries you/your family consume. Even if meat and toilet paper aren't on sale, and you don't have a coupon, you still have to have them. Which kind of leads into my next lesson.
  2. It's Easy To Get Carried Away: I will admit that I spent too much extra in my first month. I had visions of a big and beautiful stockpile dancing in my head when the reality is that kind of a stockpile takes a lot time, effort and the patience to wait for the best deal. Don't get me wrong, I've gotten all this stuff so far much cheaper than if I'd paid retail, and we did need , well most of it, but I shouldn't have stretched my budget has far as I did to do it. I recently ready on another couponing site the advise to budget into you grocery bill X amount of dollars a shopping trip that will be dedicated to your stockpile. They suggested $25 week, I found this to be very good advice, and fully intend to start doing this my next month of couponing. I will let everyone know how well this has worked for me.
  3. Like, Follow, and Friend As Many Sites As You Can: I think I have around twenty facebook pages that I have "liked" in the past month that have to do with couponing. Plus I follow a couple different blogs, and have a couple other websites that I visit. Granted a lot of the information I get is repeated over, and over from all these sites BUT. I have also found little nuggets of information and wisdom that is unique to the one place. Whether one describes the coupon lingo better, offers better beginning tips, explains how they use the coupons, or even leads you to other websites that help you would be surprised how much you can get from a lot of different people.
  4. Do What Feels Right For You and Your Needs: You will ready a lot of different advise on how to start. Most of it basically the same, some of it completely different. Don't be afraid to try something, and if it doesn't work, try something else. Heck, as far as that goes don't be afraid to just take what they say and make it yours. Don't forget that most of these people you will follow, and use live in completely different areas of the US, and have different needs based on that. Someone who lives in a big city with 15 stores right around the corner, has different needs than the rural person with 5 stores in 30 miles.
  5. Be Considerate To Other Shoppers & Stores: If you watch the show, and you know which one i'm talking about, they almost always show the shoppers clearing at least one shelf as if it were an everyday thing. Funny thing is if you notice, most of them have put in orders, and I think the show asks them to clear a shelf or two just for the sake of the show. Nothing is more frustrating then walking into a store for a good deal and finding that someone has come in already and taken them all. Yes, rainchecks exist, but if it's a store like Walmart, and it's not a sale item, just an everyday you have to wait forever for it to get restocked. (If anyone from Salina reads this please take it to heart, there are some terrible shelf-clearers in that town!) If you're to new, shy or nervous to ask the store people if they do that.... call. That's what I do, that way if they do say no, or heaven forbid I get a jerk, it's no biggy. I just hang up the phone. Try to remember that, especially now, there are a lot of people out there on tight budgets looking for good deals themselves. Whether they want to use coupons, or just get a good deal on sale, it can be a big thing if that deal is gone, because someone thought they needed 100 things of hand soap.
Sorry for the post being so long, and of course these are just my observations and you can do what you will with them. I don't think I'm good enough yet to put out a "beginners guide" for everyone, but there are a lot of good blogs, websites, books, and Facebook pages that can help you out there. This was more of stuff that it doesn't seem the others cover as much. Happy bargain hunting everyone, and if you find any great Ks deals, just let me know and I will post them!!

1st Ever Post and What I Hope For This Blog

Hello everyone, this is literally my first ever blog post. I have never had a blog, on anything, and I've never posted anything. Heck until I started this couponing thing I had barely even read any blogs lol. Which leads into why I started this blog.

First we'll go back about three years when the economy turned to a suckonomy. Both my fiance and I were working full-time, and while they weren't the highest paying jobs they weren't minimum wage either. Then he got laid off, and a few months later I found out I was pregnant. Time passed and jobs remained scarce until he finally took a part-time job before the unemployment ran out. Again not terrible pay, but the hours were half of what they used to be. This lead me on a path to find ways to save money, as it did for a lot of other people also.

Unsatisfied with a lot of things I read, which all basically told me the same things over again in different ways, I was watching t.v. one night when..... you guessed I saw an episode of TLC's "Extreme Couponing." So started my path to my future stockpile, and getting a handle on my grocery bills. Which were becoming outrageous no matter what I tried.

So here I am four weeks later, which a small (but growing) stockpile in my backroom and a pink argyle binder full of coupons. Can I just say that I love doing this. It's fun! I like the way my stockpile is growing, and how i'm getting more bang for my buck in the grocery store. Now, I follow some really good blogs, from ladie's who really know their coupons. My problem is, for small town Kansas, parts of it are not relevant for us. Yes they do the match ups for the bigger chains, and that's nice, but they can't get all these little mom and pop stores in our rural areas. I've also noticed on some of the bigger "super stores" like Target, Walmart, etc. that some things don't match and must be regional.

So I started this blog, and made a Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kansas-Couponing/183721028345592, with the hopes of starting a kindof Kansas Coupon Coop, where we all get together and share the best deals we've found, where we found them, store coupon policies and tips and tricks to this game they call couponing! So let me know what you think, follow my blog, "like" my Facebook page and working together we CAN make this work and show them all how it's done in Kansas!!!!
